A new theatre for professional performing arts in the heart of Auckland next to the Town Hall and Basement Theatres.

- The international quality auditorium features flexible staging, and seating is for 350-460 people.
- The current site design features an entrance to the theatre through a bar / café off Queen Street and an auditorium at the back of the Town Hall facing the carpark and Basement Theatre.
- Q theatre is the vision of the New Theatre Initiative Inc, an incorporated society of professional performing arts practitioners who have formed a facilities partnership with Auckland City to develop the venue.
- The capital/building assets of NTi Inc has been transferred to Q Theatre Trust and other assets to Q Theatre Ltd, a limited liability company with responsibility for running the venue.
- Extensive business planning for the operation of the theatre is based on international best practice. This business case has been endorsed by Auckland City Council and by other significant regional arts bodies and supporters such as ART (Arts Regional Trust) and ASB Community Trust.
- The community need for this venue has been continuously considered and validated since the project’s inception and independent audits have positively endorsed business planning.
- Auckland City Council has agreed to gift the buildings and provide running costs and land on a long-tem lease. The City has committed $ 9.2 million in capital funds, to date, as well as their agreement in principle to an operational subsidy once the venue opens.
- Thanks to fantastic support, $20.4 million of the target is already raised.
- Any required balance of funds will be raised from a combination of private donors and community trustst.
- The plan is for the new theatre to be operational by 2011.
