The Arts Foundation honours John and Jo Gow with arts patronage award

Q's Pioneer donors and Platinum Patrons, John and Jo Gow, are recipients of the 2016 arts patronage award, honouring their amazing support of the arts in New Zealand

The Arts Foundation was instigated in the late 90s by arts visionaries who wanted to build a philanthropic organisation to help support New Zealand's finest artists to create more extraordinary work. Each year, the Foundation makes several financial awards for artists and honours significant New Zealand Artists with Icon Awards. The Foundation celebrates and encourages philanthropy, making it simple and rewarding to donate to the arts. The Arts Foundation created and runs the online crowd funding platform Boosted, which has been at the heart of funding many productions across Q's programme.

This week, The Arts Foundation announced the recipients of their 2016 awards, which will be handed out at a glittering event on Auckland's waterfront, on November 23rd. Q Theatre is absolutely thrilled that Pioneer Donors and Platinum Patrons John and Jo Gow are being recognised by the Foundation, being awarded the 2016 arts patronage award.

Q's Chief Executive, James Wilson, was delighted to learn of John and Jo's award: "John and Jo are rock-stars of arts philanthropy in Aotearoa. Their endless enthusiasm for creative makers across art forms is inspiring, and they have played a major role in supporting artists and practitioners at Q Theatre. The support and encouragement that we receive from Jo and John is hugely valued, and makes such a difference to the work that we are able to do. I'm over the moon that they are being recognised by the arts foundation- and even more delighted that they have chosen to share their award with Q Theatre"

The Award for Patronage recipients are given $20,000 to distribute to artists or arts organisations of their choice to celebrate the occasion of the award. All recipients to date have chosen to donate $20,000 of their own so they can give away $40,000 to artists, organisations or projects of their choice. John and Jo will make a gift of $10,000 to Q Theatre, upon receipt of the award.

John and Jo's other chosen donation recipients are- The Big Idea, Tautai Pacific Arts; and Sculpture On The Gulf.
