In work ranging from jazz and blues interpretations to music-theatre collisions Coco Davis sings seductive nightmares to shake you from slumber, spinning tales from the dark side of the female heart. Auckland theatre audiences will know her from her work in Daffodils, Cabaret, Chicago, Little Shop of Horrors and The Sad Lament of Pecos Bill.

Inspired by cabaret, surrealism and film noir, Davis has developed subtle yet dislocating new arrangements of old songs. The lyrics of an old blues tune take on a fresh longing when placed in the languid company of filmic synthesizers, razor sharp slide guitar and sultry baritone sax.

Davis has performed at many festivals around New Zealand including Splore, Auckland's Music in Parks, Tauranga Jazz Festival, Auckland Arts Festival, Taupo's Erupt Festival, Tauranga Arts Festival, and Nelson Arts Festival.

“The spirit of Mixtape is really one of eclecticism. This is a city where you can hear adventurous jazz, literate songwriting, ultra-rare reggae 45‘s, and off-the-wall mutant surf versions of klezmer music. Real music fans are open-minded and cosmopolitan - and Mixtape is a space for them.” (Tom Rodwell, Mixtape curator and calypso-blues guitarist)

Gather your mates, order a drink and enjoy Q’s mixtape of intimate and rare performances by some of NZ’s most exciting contemporary musicians and songwriters.
