The Auckland music scene would be unrecognisable without mover 'n' shaker Mr Matthew Crawley.

The dapper gentleman behind over 100 Strange News productions since 2005 (including numerous overseas acts from Ariel Pink to Mick Harvey) is also the entertainment curator at bohemian Auckland institution Golden Dawn, Tavern of Power and one of the reliable hands steering the good ship Back on the Good Foot through the airwaves on 95bFM.

In between this, Matt has also managed to find the time to sing with The Cosbys, The Conjurors, and has even guested with hip-hop outfits Tourettes and Homebrew, and is a respected giant-voiced songwriter in his own right.

Crawley’s DJ sets are a much anticipated treat - always eclectic, soulful and witty - and on this night features selections from his recent hunts in the bargain basements of Paris and Portugal.

What is Q Mixtape?

Located in the beating hub of the arts precinct, Q brings you a mixtape of free live gigs in our Lounge bar with a generous helping of cult musicians and DJ’s to enjoy every Saturday night.

“The spirit of Mixtape is really one of eclecticism. This is a city where you can hear adventurous jazz, literate songwriting, ultra-rare reggae 45‘s, and off-the-wall mutant surf versions of klezmer music. Real music fans are open-minded and cosmopolitan - and Mixtape is a space for them.” (Tom Rodwell, Mixtape curator and calypso-blues guitarist)

Gather your mates, order a drink and enjoy Q’s mixtape of intimate and rare performances by some of NZ’s most exciting contemporary musicians and songwriters. From fresh renditions of beloved vintage classics, sweet indie-folk to soulful jazz and acoustic pop, you’re in for something refreshing and unique every time.

If you're after a late night meal, browse through our in-house restaurant menu Citizen Q and book a table with reservations@qtheatre.co.nz or call 09 282 4402.
