Ruckus are an improvising group playing new compositions by David Ward.
Long marinated in such juices as Monk, Coleman, Mingus, Lacy, Zappa and Frisell, David writes music that is melodic, humourous, rhythmic and joyous.
From twisted tango and carnivalesque romps to disheveled swing and free tunes, this group agrees with Frank: jazz ain't dead, it just smells funny.

What is Q Mixtape?

Located in the beating hub of the arts precinct, Q brings you a mixtape of free live gigs in our Lounge bar with a generous helping of cult musicians and DJ’s to enjoy every Saturday night.

“The spirit of Mixtape is really one of eclecticism. This is a city where you can hear adventurous jazz, literate songwriting, ultra-rare reggae 45‘s, and off-the-wall mutant surf versions of klezmer music. Real music fans are open-minded and cosmopolitan - and Mixtape is a space for them.” (Tom Rodwell, Mixtape curator and calypso-blues guitarist)

Gather your mates, order a drink and enjoy Q’s mixtape of intimate and rare performances by some of NZ’s most exciting contemporary musicians and songwriters. From fresh renditions of beloved vintage classics, sweet indie-folk to soulful jazz and acoustic pop, you’re in for something refreshing and unique every time.

If you're after a late night meal, browse through our in-house restaurant menu Citizen Q and book a table with reservations@qtheatre.co.nz or call 09 282 4402.
