As well as taking his talents from paper to the stage, this one-man show will see award-winning playwright and stutterer Sam Brooks turn his focus inwards, detailing his screw-ups with men and his approach to his own stutter with characteristic rawness, self-depreciating wit, and a whole lot of lip synching.

With his dab hand at playwriting, Brooks has previously been named Auckland’s Most Exciting Playwright by Metro Magazine, taken out Wellington’s Playmarket’s Playwrights Awards two years in a row, and been nominated for a Chapman Tripp Award for Outstanding New Playwright.

The show features a different guest actor each night, including a Billy T nominee and two Shortland Street stars.

“Stutterpop is a strange, yet compelling combination of stuttering and pop. Think “The King’s Speech” crossed with Nicki Minaj.“ (GayNZ, 2015)

“This is the reason every review of this show will describe Brooks’ Stutterpop as ‘brave’. While this is an undeniable truth, it by no means paints the complete picture. Bravery is seldom clever, but Stutterpop is seriously smart.”  (Express, 2015)
