2016 Matchbox Season // Love a good story

This year’s MATCHBOX season (formerly known as Q Presents) is all about the good stories. Spread throughout the year from June to October we have a collection of works from astonishing artists following in the footsteps of The Pitchfork Disney, All your wants and needs fulfilled forever and Daffodils.

‘One more story pleeeeeease!’ My Dad probably heard this line far more than he would have liked as he desperately tried to get an annoyingly awake toddler to go to sleep. You see, I’ve always loved a good story. And I’m always up for the next one.

This year’s MATCHBOX season (formerly known as Q Presents) is all about the good stories. Spread throughout the year from June to October we have a collection of works from astonishing artists following in the footsteps of The Pitchfork Disney, All your wants and needs fulfilled forever and Daffodils.

First up in June we get up close and personal as we attempt to understand the ever changing transition from childhood to adulthood in Natalie Maria Clark’s Everything Anyone Ever Wanted (details below). It’s a story many 20 somethings and beyond will connect to, as the concept of buying a house and getting a ‘real’ job become more and more unreachable and mysterious. Natalie (featured in the image on the left), is stupidly talented and understands the human condition far more than I feel comfortable with.

If you’re still singing ‘driiiiiiiink yourself more bliss….’ with the car windows down since experiencing Daffodils at one of its sell out seasons at Q, you have one more chance before it heads to Scotland to perform at the prestigious Traverse Theatre for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Could we be any more proud to have been part of bringing it to the stage?! To help get them there they’re putting on the mother of one night stands on June 3 at the Town Hall, with support from Auckland Live. So grab your mates and sort the pet/babysitter because you do not want to miss out!
