That's a Wrap: NZ International Comedy Festival 2025!

The NZ International Comedy Festival sponsored by Best Foods Mayo has wrapped up for 2025, and it truly brought the house down with laughter, joy, and unforgettable comedy experiences.

Issue date:

Another year, another incredible Comedy Fest for the record – and what a festival it was! As one of the key venues for the festival, here at Q Theatre, we are still winding down from all the lingering energy and rumbling laughter that filled every corner of our whare during the month of May.

We'd like to give a massive shoutout to this year's Billy T Award winner and nominees (including David Stuart whose Festival season was performed in our very own Vault), as well as the iconic Fred Award winner and finalists, including Melanie Bracewell whose show "A Little Treat" took place in Rangatira.

As we reflect on all the joy of the last few weeks, here are our top five highlights from this year's festival.

1. Being booked and busy
There’s nothing quite like seeing all the eager comedy crowds filling up Q's Lounge and theatre spaces. Our venues were bursting at the seams – from Rangatira to Loft – and we loved seeing Vault and Cellar come alive, spaces that often only open their doors during the Comedy Festival.

2. Sharing tasty kai at Citizen Q
We reckon laughter is even better on a full puku. Our special comedy menu at Citizen Q was a hit – the perfect pairing for a night of giggles and great company. Thanks to everyone who dropped in for a bite and a bevvy between all the laughs.

3. A top-tier line-up
From emerging local talent to international comedy heavyweights, we were spoiled for choice this year. It was a privilege to host so many talented performers under our roof – each one bringing their own unique flavour of comedy with the best punchlines.

4. Seeing all the mahi behind the scenes
During the festival, it's always a privilege to see the mahi that everyone puts in, making the comedy magic happen. From our Q whānau and the Comedy Fest crew, to the tech and front-of-house teams - this incredible festival is only possible thanks to everyone's unwavering dedication and boundless energy.

5. And of course, all the laughs!
Ultimately, it’s about the laughter. There's something special about a room full of strangers coming together to share an evening of carefree giggles. Laughter is really the best medicine, and this year it's safe to say we got a much-needed dose.

This year's Comedy Festival is one to remember and as crazy as it is, we can't wait to do it again in 2026. See you same time, same place, next year to laugh out loud all over again!
