INTRODUCING THE 2022 BILLY T AWARD NOMINEES!

We’re kicking off 2022 with big laughs, fresh talent and one massive comedy showcase: Billy T Jams!

Five of Aotearoa’s best new comedians are hitting the stage this February as they start their quest for the title of Billy T Award winner - and the coveted yellow towel of course!

Your 2022 Billy T nominees are:

  • Abby Howells
  • Gabby Anderson
  • Jack Ansett
  • Janaye Henry
  • Maria Williams

We’re stoked to have our 2021 Billy T Award winner, and Celebrity Treasure Island’s very own ‘Puzzle Queen’, Brynley Stent hosting the show. Joining Brynley and our five nominees on the Rangatira mainstage, will be a very special yet to be announced guest.

Named after comedy legend Billy T James, the Billy T Award recognizes emerging comedians with outstanding talent, who are destined for big things. Ewen Gilmour and Cal Wilson took home the very first award back in 1997, and in the 25 years since winners have included Rose Matafeo, Angella Dravid, Dai Henwood and Kura Forrester.

Don’t miss your chance to catch these five crack-up comics before they hit the big time – we can’t think of better way to celebrate the return of live comedy!

Proceeds from this event will support the New Zealand Comedy Trust, producers of the NZ International Comedy Festival, and continue their work supporting the development of the local comedy industry.

The 2022 NZ Comedy Festival with Best Foods Mayo will run from 29 April – 22 May, with the full programme announced in early 2022.
