“I am not born to make dreamy movies. All I can do is to present the reality.”

For one night only, join trailblazing filmmaker Anurag Kashyap for an intimate discussion about his work, his unflinching approach to storytelling and the moments that have shaped his career.

First breaking into the scene in 1998 as a writer on crime drama Satya — named by CNN as one of the 100 greatest Indian films of all time — Kashyap was one of the pioneers of India’s independent filmmaking scene in the 2000s, rejecting traditional Bollywood conventions with films focusing on the complex and contradictory underbelly of Indian society.

Kashyap has also been a vocal advocate for creative freedom and artistic expression in the Indian film industry. For his contribution to cinema, he has been awarded the Ordre des Arts es det Lettres (Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters) by the Government of France and the Yash Bharati Award by the Government of Uttar Pradesh.

He joins filmmaker and academic Shuchi Kothari in conversation, followed by a Q&A with the audience.

“Talented, prolific and provocative to his core” — The Guardian on Anurag Kashyap

“It joins the pantheons of great films about filmmaking.” — Danny Boyle on AK vs AK (2020)

“The Indian mob saga Gangs of Wasseypur is a frequently spectacular achievement: five hours — and then some — of gliding camera moves, brutal action and dizzying revenge plotting, often set to a peppy pop music backbeat.” — New York Times on Gangs of Wasseypur (2015)
