Established in 2000, the World Choir Games is the largest choral festival and competition on the globe and has been called the Olympics of choral singing. WCG is renowned for its ability to bring together all nations and cultures in a joyful celebration of creativity, diversity, friendship and peace.
Now, for the first time ever, the Games are coming to Aotearoa New Zealand. The 13th WCG will be held in Auckland from 10 to 20 July 2024.
The World Choir Games are truly of world scale. Competition takes place during the day across a range of central city venues including Q Theatre, while the festival consists of an Olympic-style parade; large opening, awards and closing ceremonies; and many evening concerts featuring the participating choirs. Throughout the festival, Q Theatre will become a song-filled hub for workshops, competitions and choral warm-up spaces.
This year will see more than 11,000 singers from over 30 countries, making it the largest choral competition and festival on the planet! Participating choirs will take part in competition, workshops, ceremonies, evening performances, and free daytime concerts - serving audiences a sumptuous two-week feast of music.

Competition Day Passes
With choirs competing in 28 different categories, there is something for everyone on each day of the games. Some choirs sing a programme of four varied songs; others enter specialist categories, like pop, jazz, gospel, contemporary and sacred music, as well as the fabulous folk and indigenous sections, where choirs often sing and dance in traditional dress.
With a Day Pass you can stay in one place and gorge on your favourite kind of music, mix your courses across a couple of venues, or even dart between all of them to sample as much of our choral smorgasbord as possible! A Day Pass will allow you to enjoy and support your choice of choirs competing on that day, and with all venues within a short stroll of each other, you’ll certainly be spoiled for choice.
